Waitsfield Story

Established in his backyard in 1985, founder George Schenk first took his wood-fired flatbreads to the public one night a week at the Tucker Hill lodge.  From the first glimpse of the earthen-oven, to the first bite of crust, demand for the rustic cuisine quickly outgrew the lodge, and the restaurant found it's permanent home at Lareau Farm in 1991.  The 25 acre farmstead is located on the valley floor of the Mad River, and includes the original American Flatbread restaurant, a bed and breakfast, a wedding venue and event space, 10 acres of gardens with a small holding of chickens and pigs, walking and mountain bike trails, and art galleries in the Big Red Barn (June-October).  Join us, and explore the American Flatbread origin story.
